Through analysis of the risk factors concerning the patient, their determination and therefore the diagnosis, preliminary prevention can be implemented. Above all, the risk factors are eliminated, by asking patients to modify their habits. Giving up smoking and an appropriate diet are the first practical suggestions in every case. The subsequent passage is the elimination of local irritants of the mouth through professional dental cleansing, from the ablation of tartar to root planing. The instructions of oral hygiene are then useful for the patient to keep the state of health obtained with the treatment. Lastly, there is great recourse to mini-invasive dentistry and the early treatment of micro-lesions: with the aid of special instrumentation, caries are intercepted very early on to preserve as far as possible the remaining dental structure. The pathologies and incorrect behaviour that can worsen the health of the teeth in time, for example bruxism (teeth grinding and clenching) which is corrected through the application of specially developed guards.

The continuity of treatment

Patients who came to Leo Weinstein’s surgery in the 1950s as children are now facing the problems of oral health in maturity and have brought their children and now come with their grandchildren. Today the W&F surgery sees children who tomorrow will be teenagers and then adults and they will always be able to come to Via Sottocorno for dental treatment, certain of finding the same comfortable and familiar environment, the best and highly advanced techniques and a clinical tradition that is renewed and handed down from one generation to the next.

Specialists and teamwork

At the W&F Dental Surgery, every patient is treated by the specialist with greatest expertise in the specific clinical area required, but always after teamwork which allows evaluating the problems of oral health as a whole. After solving the local problem, the patient is never left on their own: a continuous course of treatment is proposed and suggested, with subsequent check-ups at the surgery and the maintenance procedures to follow at home.

Reducing the patient’s anxiety to a minimum

The W&F Dental Surgery has always looked after its patients with the objective of establishing a relationship with them where the fear of going to the dentist is overcome and forgotten.
With the intention of following this line, the surgery offers its patients the possibility of having surgery under conscious sedation.
Conscious sedation is a type of anaesthetic which allows every operation to be done with extreme peace of mind, from the extraction of one tooth to the insertion of implants. A specific team of anaesthetists, through this technique reduces the perceptive capacity of the subject, but nevertheless allowing a certain level of reaction to external stimuli, avoiding the unpleasant sensation of deep sleep of a general anaesthetic. During the procedure, all the vital physiological parameters are constantly monitored.

At the end of the operation, the patient regains consciousness and full self-control. On arriving home, the patient will have a good night’s sleep and the next morning the operation will seem a distant memory.
